Wendell Rodricks’ unceremonious exit as the GenNext mentor for Mumbai fashion week in December 2010, ended the tumultuous relationship between the Goa-based designer and the influential fashion body.
The designer then joined hands with the competing fashion week in Delhi, going on to become a board member of Fashion Design Council of India.
Following a year of discontent, it looks like Mumbai is ready to embrace Wendell once again, this time with an open invitation to showcase at this year’s Winter/ Festive 2011 edition in August.

Wendell, we hear, has given the nod.
“There was a lot of bad blood. Though no one spoke about it openly, Wendell was upset and had no intention of returning to Mumbai fashion week. It has taken a lot of coaxing to pacify him, but Wendell will be back in Mumbai this year. Fruitful meetings have taken place and we are excited to have him back,” reveals a top source in Mumbai.
When contacted, Wendell plays down the impact of this development by saying, “Just to clarify, there was no tiff. I am in talks to do a show there. And if all goes well, I will do it. This does not mean that I am not doing Delhi; I am on the FDCI (Fashion Design Council of India) Board. In any case, this Mumbai-Delhi saga ended when Nari (Narendra Kumar) and I opened the Delhi fashion week two years ago. Since then, many Delhi designers have also been showing in Mumbai.”
